Today, Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer. It’s your last chance to wear white shoes without being judged. It’s the cue for back-to-school sales and pumpkin spice lattes. But underneath all that, it’s a collective victory lap.
It’s a day to recognize that you’ve worked hard. You’ve shown up, you’ve tried, and you deserve a break. The shopping malls? They’ll be there tomorrow. The chores? They can wait. Today, you rest on the shoulders of the thousands who marched so you could sit on a lawn chair holding a burger.
So go ahead: do absolutely nothing productive. Watch a bad movie. Take a nap in a hammock. Eat that third hot dog. You’re honoring the spirit of the holiday perfectly.
Because here’s the uplifting truth: Your labor matters. The world runs on the work of people like you. And once a year, we all agree to pause, look around, and say, “Yeah, we did that.” And then we grill some brats.
Happy Labor Day, my friend. You’ve earned every single minute of it. And if anyone tries to make you work today? Just tell them the name of the holiday prohibits it. It’s in the definition. (I’m pretty sure that’s how it works.)
