Before pop stars, there were pirates. Real, swashbuckling pirates. In the 1600s, yellow was a big deal among seafaring rogues.
Pirates supposedly wore yellow gold and yellow cloth to show they had beaten the odds. A yellow scarf meant you’d survived the high seas. The color screamed, “I made it back!”
Is it historically accurate? Eh, maybe not. But it’s a delicious origin story for our favorite ribbon.
