Officially, it means danger to life and potential damage to buildings. Unofficially, it means your garden furniture is about to audition for a role in Twister. That cheap plastic table? Gone. It’s now a projectile, probably heading for your neighbour’s car.
The Met Office gets all dramatic with these colours. Yellow is a gentle nudge. Amber is a firm slap on the wrist. Red is basically the end of days. Claudia brought the amber, which is her saying, “I’m serious, but I’m not a hurricane.” Yet.
The wind was the main event
Forget the rain—Claudia’s winds were the real diva. We’re talking 60 to 70 mph gusts in some coastal areas. That’s fast enough to knock you off your feet, or at least make you look like you’re doing a terrible cha-cha while walking to the bus stop. I saw a pigeon yesterday that was flying backwards. I’m not kidding.
My recycling bin escaped. It rolled down the street like it was on a mission. I just stood there, coffee in hand, thinking, “You do you, bin.” That’s the spirit of an Amber Warning, right? Embrace the chaos.
