Good question. Sadiq Khan is a former human rights lawyer who grew up on a council estate in South London. His parents were Pakistani immigrants who worked hard to give him a shot, and he took it—all the way to Parliament, then to City Hall. Think of him as the underdog who kept showing up until he became the top dog.
He’s been mayor since 2016, so by now, he’s pretty much a fixture. But his third term feels different. He’s got a fresh mandate to tackle the stuff that really bugs Londoners—like cost of living, housing, and that pesky ULEZ expansion. You know, the car charge that makes everyone go “ugh” but also reminds us to breathe cleaner air.
What’s his big plan for the next four years?
He’s pushing more affordable homes—tens of thousands of them. He wants to make London a “15-minute city,” where you can reach shops, parks, and work without a stressful commute. Sounds dreamy, right? He’s also doubling down on public transport, because let’s face it, the Tube can feel like a sardine can at rush hour.
And get this—he’s promising free school meals for all primary kids in London. That’s a huge deal for families feeling the squeeze. It’s like he’s saying, “Forget the drama, let’s feed the kids and keep the buses running.” Isn’t that the kind of boring-but-brilliant politics we all secretly want?
