If you’re looking for the quick fix: Lions games usually kick off at 1:00 PM Eastern on most Sundays. Sounds easy, right? Well, not so fast—because the NFL loves to play with our hearts (and our schedules). Sometimes they throw in a 4:25 PM start, a primetime Monday night mess, or even a dreaded Thursday night special. You know, just to keep you on your toes.
Here’s the kicker: the league doesn’t announce the exact time until about two weeks before each game. So if you’re trying to plan your entire Sunday barbecue around a Lions game, good luck. I’m not saying the NFL is conspiring against us, but I’m also not saying they’re not.
Where to Actually Check (Because Asking Siri Is a Trap)
First, never trust a random tweet—unless it’s from the official Detroit Lions Twitter account. That’s your gold standard. Second, use the team’s website or the NFL app, which is surprisingly accurate when it isn't crashing. Oh, and your cable guide? Double-check it. I’ve seen that thing lie more than a politician during a debate.
Look, I get it—you want to know right now, without jumping through hoops. But the reality is that time zones are a thing, and if you live on the West Coast, that 1:00 PM Eastern game starts at 10:00 AM. Which means you need to have your coffee and nachos ready by breakfast, which is honestly kind of beautiful. So, yeah, context matters.
