For Detroit Lions games, the start time is usually 1:00 PM Eastern Time on Sundays. But wait—there’s a twist! Sometimes they play at 4:25 PM, or even on Monday Night Football or Thursday Night Football. It’s like the NFL wants us to keep our schedules as flexible as a gymnast.
If you’re reading this on a specific game day, just check your favorite sports app. But here’s a pro tip: Assume it’s 1:00 PM unless your phone screams otherwise. Your phone is basically a tiny, opinionated sports announcer, and it usually knows best.
But What If It’s a Special Game?
Ah, the wild card of game times! Prime-time games, playoff games, or games against rivals like the Packers can shift start times. The NFL loves drama and flex scheduling—which is a fancy way of saying, “We’ll tell you when to watch at the last minute, and you’ll like it.” Don’t fight it. Just embrace the chaos.
For example, if the Lions are playing the Chiefs in a Sunday night showdown, you might be kicking off at 8:20 PM Eastern. That’s prime time for pizza, yelling at the TV, and pretending you understand what a “tackle box” is. You’re not alone; we’re all just clapping when everyone else claps.
