Let’s talk about the real reason you should know the answer. It’s not just about avoiding embarrassment. It’s about connection. When you know the Lions are playing at 1:00, you can plan your day around small moments of joy. Maybe you’ll watch the first quarter while folding that laundry. Or you’ll text your uncle who lives three states away and say, “Hey, you watching?” Suddenly, you’re not just a person with a schedule—you’re part of a tribe.
I’ll never forget the time I asked a cashier at the grocery store, “What time do the Lions play today?” She didn’t know. But the guy behind me in line did. He shouted, “1:00! And they’re gonna win!” We all laughed. He was wrong about the win (sorry, Lions fans), but he was right about the time. That little moment made my shopping trip feel like a community event. That’s the magic: knowing the time is your ticket to small, unexpected friendships.
A Quick Guide for the Time-Challenged
Okay, here’s the cheat code. If you’re reading this on a game day: look at the top of your browser or open your phone’s sports widget. If you’re reading this on a Monday (because you’re me, and you procrastinate), then remember this: the Lions usually play on Sundays at one of three times: 1:00 PM, 4:25 PM, or 8:20 PM. There are also Thursday night games and the occasional Monday night affair, but those are like surprise parties—you need an alert to remember them.

And here’s a life tip: set a recurring reminder on your phone for Thursday mornings that says, “Check Lions game time, dummy.” I do this. It works. Plus, it feels like a little pat on the back from Future You.
