Here’s where the rumor mill gets oily. You’ve heard that red meat causes cancer, heart disease, early graves, and maybe makes your car’s check-engine light blink. The truth is more boring: processed red meat (bacon, ham, salami) is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the WHO. That’s the same group as smoking cigarettes.
Hold on. Before you toss your burger in the trash—the risk level is wildly different. Smoking a pack a day gives you a massive risk increase. Eating a sausage once a week gives you a tiny, tiny bump. The WHO is talking about the certainty of the link, not the size of the risk. Marketing fail, right?
