Believe it or not, many high-end false lashes are made from real animal fur. Specifically, mink fur is a huge deal in the lash world. Mink lashes are prized because they’re super soft, fine, and mimic natural lashes like a pro. (And yes, the fur is usually collected humanely—the animals aren’t harmed, just brushed or sheared.)
But it’s not just minks. You’ll also see lashes made from horsehair or sable. They tend to be a little stiffer than mink, which can give you that dramatic, “I’m ready for my close-up” look. The irony? You’re literally wearing someone’s tail or mane on your eyelids. Fancy, right?
A quick side note: if you’re vegan or allergic to animal proteins, these are a hard pass. Your eyes might get red and itchy, and nobody wants that at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday.
