Minneapolis has more lakes than you can count. They’re inside the city limits. People canoe to work. Okay, not really, but they do bike everywhere.
The vibe here is “Minnesota Nice.” It’s a real thing. People will smile at you, hold the door, and then apologize if you bump into them. It’s a cultural superpower of passive kindness.
But don’t confuse “nice” with “easy.” We’re famously reserved. It takes three winters to make a real friend. But once you’re in, you’re in for life.
Weather That’s a Conversation Starter
Winter is a character here. It lasts from November to April. Sometimes May. The cold is a dry, sharp slap to the face.
But we don’t complain. We embrace it. We have a festival called the Winter Carnival. There’s a giant ice palace. Seriously, a castle made of ice. It’s like Narnia, but with more hot chocolate.
Summer makes up for it. It’s glorious, humid, and full of music. Every neighborhood has a free concert. Everyone sits on blankets. The mosquitoes are big enough to carry off a toddler, but we forgive them.
