CVS and Walgreens are the Easter MVPs. They are almost always open, but with reduced hours. You might walk in at 2 PM and find a revolving door of candy wrappers and Easter baskets. It’s a surreal experience.
Why? Because they sell everything. Need a greeting card for Aunt Carol? Got it. Need a bag of jelly beans? Of course. Need a last-minute Easter basket for a toddler? They sell pre-packaged ones that look like a clown threw up on them. They are perfect for forgetting you have a family.
Quirky detail: CVS often keeps their pharmacy closed on Easter. So you can buy a chocolate cross and a pack of gum, but don’t expect a flu shot. It’s a weird half-state of being open. You get the snacks, not the medical advice.
The Grocery Store Gamble
Here’s where it gets tricky. Major chains are a mixed bag. Kroger? Usually closed. Publix? Closed. But your local higher-end grocer, like Whole Foods or a regional co-op? They might be open for limited hours. It’s a game of Russian roulette with your stomach.
Pro tip: Call ahead. Seriously. Do not rely on Google Maps. Google might tell you Portillo’s is open, but you’ll find a locked door and a sad, cardboard bunny. Always call. Your pride is not worth the wasted gas.
Are Stores Open on Easter Sunday?
The funniest scenario? A Walmart Neighborhood Market. Some are open, some aren’t. It’s a corporate coin flip. You walk in, and the lighting is dimmer than usual. The employees have that “I’d rather be at my grandma’s house” look. But they will ring up your $2.99 bag of Peeps with a smile. A slightly strained smile.
