First off: Tails is back. And I don't mean as some floating, crash-test-dummy AI. You can actually play as him yourself. Or, if you’re feeling generous, you can let a friend join in via local co-op. Yeah, on a phone. It works surprisingly well!

The big gimmick is the “Tag Action.” Tails can fly you up to high ledges. Knuckles (yes, he shows up for special stages) can punch through walls. It feels like you’re playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles again, but on a tiny screen. Pure nostalgia bait, and I loved it.

But here’s the kicker: the physics are finally fixed. Sonic no longer feels like he’s on ice. The spin-dash has that satisfying thwump. You can actually maintain speed loops without hitting a weird pixel. Thank Chaos.

Is it a perfect game? No, let's be real.

The mobile port has some serious flaws. For one, the controls are still a bit of a nightmare on a touchscreen. Those tiny virtual buttons? Your thumb will cramp up after three acts. I recommend using a Bluetooth controller. Or having the patience of a saint.

Also, the levels are very linear. There are branching paths, sure, but nothing like the labyrinthine zones of the originals. You’re mostly running forward and hitting buttons. It’s fun, but it’s not exactly “deep” platforming.

And the special stages? Oh boy. They try to recreate the 3D tunnels from Sonic 2. But on mobile, the tilt controls are a joke. You’ll spin out more than a confused top. I recommend just skipping them unless you’re a completionist.
