There’s a fine line between “lived-in” and “science experiment.” If you’ve used dry shampoo, gel, or hairspray for three days straight, rinse it out. Heavy buildup can clog your scalp and repel the color or cut.
A quick rinse (no shampoo) is the compromise. Wet your hair, let the water run through, then towel-dry thoroughly. Your stylist will thank you for not bringing a week of hairspray into their clean scissors.
The Golden Rules in One Box
For color, balayage, highlights, or bleach: don’t wash for 24–48 hours. For a cut or blowout: dry, day-old hair is perfect. For extensions or perms: wash same-day, no conditioner.
And always—always—remove any hats, clips, or elastic bands before you sit down. Your stylist’s first glance should be on your natural fall, not a dented kink.
