The encore was a masterstroke. They came back with a gorgeous, stripped-down version of “Something Changed,” and I’m not ashamed to admit I got a little teary. It was a reminder that something did change—for the band, for us, for the whole Britpop era. And we’re all better for it.

They finished with “Pink Glove,” and Jarvis did a little wiggle that sent the crowd into absolute hysterics. As the final notes faded, the house lights came up, and we all blinked, slightly dazed, like we’d just woken from the best dream ever. No one wanted to leave. We just stood there, grinning at each other.
