Last summer, I watched a dolphin at a beach teach its calf how to play with a beach ball. The mother would nudge the ball, the calf would chase it. Then the mother swam away, letting the calf figure it out. It was so human it made me laugh. That baby dolphin had better parenting than half the sitcom dads I know.
So here’s the point: We are part of a living, thinking, laughing planet. From the crow on the telephone wire to the octopus in the tide pool, every smart animal is a reminder that intelligence comes in all shapes, sizes, and species. Pay attention to them. They’re already paying attention to you.
