For a long, long time, this fixture didn’t exist. Leeds were busy being big, noisy Leeds in the Premier League, while Brentford was the quiet, clever kid in the library—the Championship. You’d forget they existed until someone mentioned they had a statistical model for throw-ins or something.
Then, the tables turned. Both clubs took the scenic route through the lower leagues, bumping into each other only occasionally. One such encounter was in the 2005 League One play-off semi-final. Leeds won, of course, but Brentford fans still remember it like a bad sunburn. It was the kind of win where you celebrate, but you feel a little guilty about it.
Fast forward to 2016-2018, and they met in the Championship. Those games were like watching two people argue over the last slice of pizza. Passionate, desperate, and full of accidental elbows. Leeds won a few, Brentford won a few. Nothing screamed “history” yet.
