When you have two authors, it's pretty straightforward - just separate their names with and in the text, and use an ampersand (&) in the Works Cited page. For example, (Smith and Johnson 24) in the text, and Smith, John, and Jane Johnson in the Works Cited page. Easy peasy!
But, things get a bit more interesting when you have three or more authors. In this case, you'll use the first author's name, followed by et al. (which is short for "et alii," meaning "and others" in Latin). So, your in-text citation might look like (Smith et al. 24). Fun fact: did you know that et al. is used in many languages, including French, Spanish, and Italian?
