In the UK, we’re pretty lucky. Many pet shops and online stores offer high-quality rawhide that’s safer than the supermarket specials. Brands like Nylabone, Whimzees, and Petstages often make rawhide alternatives that are easier on the tummy.
But if you want to be extra cautious, there are alternatives. Bully sticks, yak milk chews, and sweet potato strips are all brilliant options. My neighbour’s beagle goes nuts for a dried sweet potato—it’s like doggy crack, but healthy.
One tip: raw bones from the butcher (uncooked, please) are a fantastic treat. Just make sure they’re large enough that your dog can’t swallow them whole. It’s messy, but utterly joy-inducing.
