Let’s be honest—your XR had a glorious run. It survived your “I’m a minimalist now” phase and the TikTok scrolling that gave you carpal tunnel. Remember when iOS 12 dropped, and everyone lost their minds over Memoji? Your XR was there for that cultural reset.
Now, imagine trying to run a 4K holographic FaceTime on a chip designed when “Fortnite” was still cool. It’s like asking your first car—a 1998 Honda Civic with a stick shift—to compete in a Formula 1 race. Respect the nostalgia, but know when to let go.
What You’ll Actually Miss (And What You Won’t)
iOS 26’s “Always-On Ambient Mode” sounds fancy, but it’s basically a screensaver for your lock screen. Your XR? It still shows the time and that photo of your cat mid-yawn. Function over flash—you’ve mastered that art.
Things get real with new app restrictions. Third-party apps in iOS 26 will require hardware-level encryption that your XR can’t support. Translation: your banking app might eventually drop support, and your Uber will ghost you mid-ride. Digital inconvenience, evolved.
On the flip side, you’ll skip the “AI that suggests your ex’s face in your camera roll” controversy. There’s a quiet dignity in not having your phone psychoanalyze your emotions through your Spotify playlists.
