If you want a place that’s sterile, quiet, and predictable, do not move here. You’ll hate the noise, the smells, and the guy who plays the steel pan outside your window at 7 a.m. But if you want a life where every day feels like a slightly deranged festival—where you can buy a mango from a guy who also writes poetry, swim in a Victorian lido, and then argue about gentrification over a £9 cocktail—then yes.
Brixton isn’t a good place to live. It’s a great place to be alive. Just bring earplugs, a great appetite, and a sense of humor about your rapidly shrinking bank account. And whatever you do, don’t ask about the inflatable Christmas tree. Some things are best left unexplained.
