Let’s get the geography bit out of the way, because it matters. The Ibis Leeds Centre on Marlborough Street is dangerously close to everything you actually want to see in Leeds. I’m talking a short stagger from the train station and a quick stumble to the Trinity Leeds shopping center. You can practically throw a stone at the Corn Exchange—please don’t actually throw a stone.
It’s that sweet spot where you can hear the city humming, but you don’t have to smell the kebab van at 3 AM. The location is such that you feel like a local, even if your only plan is to find a Wetherspoons for a cheap breakfast. Convenience is the real luxury here, and this hotel has it in spades.
The Room: A Masterclass in “Just Enough”
Opening the door to my room was like meeting an old friend who doesn't talk too much. The space is what we politely call compact—or as I call it, “efficient for one person who leaves their clothes on the floor.” You get a bed that’s surprisingly decent, a TV that works, and a shower that goes from “lukewarm” to “scalding” in under two seconds. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about that handle.
There’s a desk if you’re tragically working, and a weird little chair that you’ll use exclusively for piling up your purchases from the Leeds Market. The decor is what I’d describe as “Scandinavian minimalist meets budget airline catalogue.” It’s clean, it’s white, and it doesn’t pretend to be your living room. That’s refreshing, actually.
