Statistically, you are more likely to be struck by lightning while riding a unicycle than to die in quicksand. There are roughly zero recorded fatalities from “sinking sand” in the United States in the last 50 years. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
So why are we all scared? Because of 1960s TV shows. Gilligan’s Island had quicksand. The Lost World had it. Your brain thinks it’s a menace, but it’s really just a soggy patch of dirt with an attitude problem. Treat it with respect, not terror.
