Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Soak the nest and the surrounding area. Ants hate the smell and will relocate. It won’t kill the colony, but it’s safe for grass and cheap. You’ll smell like a chip shop for a day, though. (Worth it? For the lawn, yes. For your social life, maybe not.)
Repeat for a few days if they’re stubborn. Sometimes they just need a hint that they’re not welcome.
