Let’s bring it home. Most of us spend our lives chasing paycheck increases, bigger houses, and the next promotion. The Pope’s lifestyle challenges that whole equation. He doesn’t get a salary because he doesn’t need one—he’s already exactly where he wants to be. When you stop measuring success by what you earn and start measuring it by what you contribute, you might find yourself living a richer life than any bank statement can show.
So tomorrow morning, before you check your account balance, ask yourself: What do I already have that I’m not charging for? Your time, your kindness, your expertise—those are your real assets. The Pope’s zero-dollar salary is the ultimate reminder that the best things in life aren’t priced. They’re lived.
