But wait—don’t close your browser in a fit of boredom. Oahu is literally built from volcanoes, just very, very sleepy ones. The island is the product of two massive shield volcanoes—the Waiʻanae Range and the Koʻolau Range—that erupted millions of years ago. They’re basically the ancient, wrinkly grandparents of the Hawaiian volcanic family.
