To recap: there are 22 seasons of American Idol as of mid-2026. That includes 15 from the original Fox run and 7 from the ABC revival. Will there be a Season 23? Almost definitely—the show is still pulling solid ratings, and Katy Perry’s contract is a cash cow.
And you know what? I’ll probably watch it. Because even when the judges argue over a key change or a contestant forgets the lyrics, American Idol is like comfort food. It’s predictable, messy, and oddly satisfying. So grab your remote and pick a season—you’ve got 22 options. No pressure.
P.S. — If anyone tells you there are 23 seasons, they’re counting that weird 2019 “All-Star” special. Don’t let them gaslight you.
