Here’s a surprising fact: the most accurate crowd count in history was done in 2019 for a march in Hong Kong, where volunteers used laser scanners and balloons to map the crowd. It took three days. London’s protest today? The official number won’t be known for weeks, and by then, we’ll all be arguing about a different protest.
So, what’s the real answer? If you were there, you probably think it was huge. If you watched it on TV, you might think it was medium. And if you’re a government spokesperson, it was exactly 5 people and a Labrador.
The truth? It was a big, wet, noisy mess of people who felt strongly about something. And that’s the only number that matters. Now, pass the sugar.
Final tally? Between 200,000 and 1,000,000. My money’s on “a lot.” And that’s a number you can take to the bank—provided the bank is also at a protest.
