Here’s the real fun fact: he doesn’t write alone. For nicer representation, he co-authors books with writers from the cultures he explores. The Sun and the Star was a collaboration with Mark Oshiro to ensure queer characters were written with respect. The Rick Riordan Presents imprint also lets other authors tell own-voices stories about Hindu, Korean, and Aztec mythology.
This approach is why his work feels alive. These aren’t books written from an ivory tower; they’re built by a community. If you’re a teacher or a librarian, this imprint is a goldmine for diverse reading lists. Kids who don’t see themselves in traditional fantasy suddenly find heroes who look like them and worship gods from their grandparents’ stories.
Your Daily Life Connection
So, how many books does Rick Riordan have? Enough to keep you busy for a year, but that’s the wrong question. The real takeaway is that his stories are about finding strength in your quirks. Percy Jackson is dyslexic because the letters of Ancient Greek are hard to read—but that same brain makes him brilliant in battle. That’s a metaphor for life: your perceived weakness might be your superpower.
Next time you’re overwhelmed by a to-do list or a pile of responsibilities, channel that demigod energy. Break it down into five books at a time. You don’t have to read a 40-book series in one sitting, just like you don’t have to solve your whole life in a day. Pick one quest. Take a breath. And if all else fails, remember that even the Oracle’s prophecies are just a series of manageable steps.
Now, go grab a copy of The Lightning Thief. Your inner child—and your shelf—deserves the adventure. And if you finish it in a weekend? Perfect. You’ve just earned yourself a blue-raspberry-flavored Ambrosia Bar from the Internet.
