Go to a local nursery. Find a little juniper, a ficus, or a jade plant. Put it in a shallow pot with drainage holes. Trim the roots a little. Cut the top branches. Then put it in a sunny spot and wait. Yes, it’ll look goofy for a while. That’s okay.
In one year, you’ll see a thicker trunk. In five years, you’ll have a story. In ten years, you’ll have a treasure that no store could ever sell you. And someone will ask, “How long did that take?” And you’ll smile and say, “Long enough to matter.”
