Fancy bottled waters with electrolytes or minerals? Same rules apply. Fancier water doesn’t mean fresher water. It still sits in plastic. Some brands use better plastic, but the clock is still ticking once you open it.
How Long Does Water In Plastic Bottles Last | Detroit Chinatown
One pro tip: store water in a cool, dark place. A pantry is perfect. Not the garage, not the windowsill, not the car trunk. Treat it like a shy vampire—no sun, no heat, no drama.
The real hero of this story
You know what lasts forever? Stainless steel. Or glass. If you’re tired of asking “how long does this water last?” just get a reusable bottle. Fill it from your tap. Change it daily. The answer to “how long does it last?” becomes “until I say so.”
But hey, we’re not here to lecture you about plastic waste. We’re here to save you from drinking sad basement water. If you’re stuck with a plastic bottle, just check the date, give it a sniff, and ask yourself: “Would I offer this to a friend?”
If the answer is no, pour it on a plant. Plants are less judgmental and they need the hydration. A thirsty fern won’t complain about a 2018 bottle. It’ll just grow and forgive you.
So, to wrap it up: unopened plastic water lasts about two years. Opened water lasts a few days. Hot car water lasts zero minutes. And your own tap water, in a clean cup? It’s perfect right now. Go enjoy it. You’ve earned it.
And next time you find that mystery bottle under your car seat? Just wave goodbye. It had a good run. Now it’s time for a fresh glass.
