Want to avoid cracked nails? Don’t cut them too short. Leave a millimeter or two to act as a bumper. Think of it as a tiny, invisible helmet for your finger.
If you have thick toenails (bless you, marathon runners), consider using clippers with a longer handle for more leverage. Or just hire a small goat to nibble them off. (Okay, don’t do that. But it’s funny to imagine.)
Also, never, ever bite your nails as a shortcut. I know, you’re stressed. But biting leaves ragged edges and invites tiny infections. Clippers are civilized. Be a civilized mammal.
