Go find the thick, woody vines that look like hairy brown ropes. These are the ivy’s arteries. They’re the veins connecting the leafy party up top to the power station underground. Cut through these with a pair of sharp pruners or a little saw. Cut them low, about a foot or so from the ground.
I always feel a little like a master assassin at this point. One clean snip, and the ivy up top is suddenly on life support. It will slowly die, turn brown, and become your new, very ugly wall art for the next few months.
