If you placed a 20-pound turkey on a bathroom scale, it would scream for help. It’s heavier than a gallon of milk. It outweighs a bowling ball by a solid five pounds. Try carrying that thing from your car to the kitchen. Your arms will file a complaint.
In pure volume, this bird takes up about 2.5 gallons of space. That’s enough to fill a beach pail. Or a large cat carrier—minus the cat, probably. It’s a bird so big you could use it as a pillow if you were desperate.
The great turkey circumference
Grab a tape measure. A 20-pound turkey has a girth that’s stunning. We’re talking a chest circumference of around 24 to 28 inches. That’s the waist of a small adult human. Your turkey wears pants in size “oof.”
Its drumsticks alone are thicker than your forearm. Each wing could double as a legit chicken wing from a monster movie. When you see it on the counter, you’ll wonder if it’s a dinosaur relative on loan from a museum.
