Let’s be honest—Del Boy was the flashy star. Rodney was the gullible one. But Grandad? He was the soul. He kept the flat grounded. He reminded us that behind all the moneymaking madness, there was a family trying to get by.
He was also the only one who could shut Del up. Remember the episode “Big Brother”? Del and Rodney fight, and Grandad just sits there, eating a ham sandwich, ignoring them. He didn’t care. It was his superpower.
The Tragic End
Sadly, Lennard Pearce died suddenly in 1984, after just three series. The show had to write out Grandad. They did it in a heartbreaking way—he died off-screen, of a heart attack. That broke fans’ hearts.
But here’s the funny twist: his death led to the arrival of Uncle Albert. And Uncle Albert was basically Grandad 2.0. Same chair. Same grumpy vibe. Just with more sea shanties.
