Now we’re in different territory. A tourist visa won’t cover you if you’re planning to work or study. For work, you’ll need an H-1B or L-1 visa (your employer usually handles this). For school, it’s the F-1 visa, which requires an acceptance letter from a US institution.
Think of it like this: a tourist visa is a library pass. You can browse, but you can’t check out books. If you want to be a long-term student or employee, you need a membership card with special privileges.

My buddy Tom tried to “work remote” on a tourist visa. He answered one email in a café in San Francisco. A customs officer saw his laptop and asked pointed questions. He got flagged and had to leave. Don’t be Tom.
The Golden Rule of “Why Should I Care?”
Because nobody wants their vacation to turn into a bureaucratic nightmare. It’s like showing up to a pool party without a swimsuit—technically you can still sit by the water, but it’s awkward, and security will ask you to leave.
Getting the right visa means you relax once you land. You can laugh at airport jokes, grab a terrible pretzel, and actually enjoy your trip without worrying about deportation over a paperwork mistake.
