Okay, let’s not overthink it too much. Rebecca Sugar and the team have said in interviews that the no-ear look was partly a nod to classic anime and cartoon styles. Characters like Adventure Time’s Finn also don’t have visible ears all the time.
But you know what? That’s fine. The lack of ears makes Gems look more alien and timeless. It’s like they stepped out of a sci-fi fairy tale where biology is optional. Plus, it’s easier to draw—and who doesn’t love a clean character design?
So, the next time you watch an episode, pay attention. Notice how a Gem’s "hearing" is never really an issue. They just know when someone is calling their name. It’s almost like magic. Oh, wait—it is magic. And that’s awesome.
So, do Gems have ears? Nah. But do they have rhythm? Do they have an ear for drama and friendship? Absolutely. And honestly? That’s way cooler than a pair of lobes.
