Oats are the raw, un-cooked grain straight from the field, looking all innocent and whole. They’re the actors before the movie starts—waiting for the director (you) to yell “Action!” and turn them into something edible. If you ate a handful of raw oats, you’d feel like a horse, and not in a cool, majestic way. More like a grumpy horse that regrets its life choices.
Think of oats as the flour before the bread, or the potato before the french fry. They’re the starting point, the blank canvas, the guy who shows up to the party in sweatpants and says, “I’m ready to transform.”
Oats come in various disguises—steel-cut (tough little nuggets that take forever to cook), rolled (flattened like a pancake that gave up), and instant (the caffeinated version of oats). But they’re all still oats at heart.
