Obviously, the police are all over this. They’ve arrested the car driver for causing death by dangerous driving. That’s a big charge, and it should be. But let’s be real—no charge brings Ian back.
They’re also closing the bridge for hours. Traffic is a nightmare. You know what? I don’t care about the traffic. Let the whole city be late for work. A man is dead because someone else was impatient.
Here’s the part where I get a little preachy. Driving is not a game. Your car is a two-ton weapon. I know, you’ve heard it before. But have you felt it?
What Do We Do With This?
We can’t sit around and be sad forever, right? We’re Londoners. We grumble, we move on. But maybe we can do one small thing. Slow down. Seriously, slow the hell down.
Next time you’re on Battersea Bridge, think of Ian. Think of the Number 19 bus. Give the driver a little extra room. Maybe even smile at them. They’re just trying to get you home.
Also, maybe don’t buy that ridiculous sports car that goes 150 mph. You don’t need it. You need to get to Sainsbury’s. That’s it. That’s the limit of your journey.
Met Police track down lorry driver after woman, 27, killed in Battersea
I know this sounds like a lecture. I hate lectures too. But sometimes, a story punches you in the gut, and you have to listen. Ian’s story is that punch.
