Oh, this is my favorite part. There’s an actual person called the Warden of the Swans. Their job includes the annual “Swan Upping”—a five-day census where they round up baby swans on the Thames.
They check the cygnets for health, tag them, and give them a little royal once-over. It’s basically a swan wellness retreat with a crown.
And yes, this tradition is still funded by the Royal Family. Because nothing says “we take swans seriously” like a boat parade with velvet uniforms.
