You might be wondering, "Why is this so confusing?" Well, the USPS follows federal holidays like a golden rule, and Good Friday ain’t on the list. Memorial Day, Christmas, even Presidents' Day—those are guaranteed days off. But Good Friday? It’s the awkward cousin of holidays: important to millions, but ignored by the postal calendar. In 2026, Good Friday falls on April 3rd, and the USPS will be as silent as a church mouse during a sermon.
Think of it this way: Easter Sunday is the big show, and Good Friday is the dress rehearsal—except the stagehands (postal workers) have the day off. So, if you need to mail your Easter bonnet to Aunt Carol, you better do it by Thursday, April 2nd, or you’ll be explaining to her why the bonnet arrived on Holy Saturday. That’s a conversation no one wants to have.
What About UPS and FedEx?
Ah, the private cavalry! If you’re desperate, UPS and FedEx operate on their own weird holiday logic. Most of them run on a modified schedule, meaning they work but with fewer trucks and more grumpy drivers. FedEx Express still delivers, because capitalism doesn't take a day off for a crucifixion. UPS pickup services, however, might be limited—check their website, but be prepared to scream "but it's urgent!" into the void.
Are post offices open on Good Friday? | The US Sun
Here’s a surprising fact: In some countries like Canada or the UK, Good Friday is a statutory holiday, meaning the post office is also closed. In Australia, it’s a day when even the kangaroos take a nap. But in the US, it’s a hodgepodge—banks close, schools close, but Starbucks stays open because caffeine doesn’t mourn. The post office, being the stubborn mule of government services, says "nope."
