For the last few weeks, you’ve been telling yourself you don’t care. You’ve mastered the art of the “shrug and walk away” in front of your friends. But inside, you’ve been refreshing the UCAS Track page so often that your thumb has developed its own personality. Tuesday 18th August 2026 is less a date and more a life event, like a wedding you didn’t plan but have to attend hungover.
You’ve also been doing that thing where you Google “what degree can I do with two Ds and a U?” at 3am. The algorithm is now convinced you’re about to drop out and join a travelling circus. It’s not a bad fallback plan, honestly. Juggling flaming torches has to be less stressful than clearing calls.
The actual moment you open the envelope (or the portal)
Let’s be real: you’re not going to wait for the postman. You’ll be hunched over your laptop at 8:01am, wearing pyjama bottoms and a t-shirt that smells faintly of last night’s regret. The loading circle spins for what feels like a millennium. That circle is the universe’s way of saying, “Are you sure you want to know?” You click refresh. The numbers appear.
First, you don’t see them. Your brain blanks out like a faulty TV screen. Then, your eyes focus. You might let out a sound that is half-scream, half-laugh, or a complete silence that worries your cat. It’s the closest a teenager gets to seeing their own birth certificate for the first time. It feels that serious.
