There’s a strange comfort in watching Harry and Marv fail. They’re the ultimate underdogs—except they’re the villains. We cheer for Kevin because we’ve all felt small, but we also secretly admire the burglars’ relentless optimism. No matter how many times they get hit by a flying iron, they get back up.

Psychologists call this “benign violation theory”—we laugh because the danger feels real, but we know it’s fake. It’s the same reason we love slapstick. Harry and Marv are the embodiment of that perfect balance between threat and absurdity.
Their dynamic is also a masterclass in partnership. Harry is the angry boss; Marv is the slightly dim sidekick who asks dumb questions. Think Abbott and Costello meet Ocean’s Eleven—if Ocean’s Eleven were terrible at everything.
Practical Tips from the Wet Bandits (Sort Of)
1. Don’t leave a calling card. Harry and Marv’s biggest mistake was creating a pattern. If you’re trying to avoid trouble—whether in burglary or in life—be unpredictable.
2. Check your surroundings. Marv never looks up. That’s why he gets a paint can to the face. In your daily life, scan for the obvious dangers: loose cables, icy steps, or that one coworker who never reads emails.
3. Communicate better. Their partnership crumbles because they yell over each other. “I’m gonna count to three!” Harry says, but they never actually count—they just escalate. A calm, clear “Let’s talk this through” could have saved them a lot of burns.
4. Dress for the job. Seriously, wool hats? In an attic? Kevin’s traps exploit their terrible gear. Wear sensible shoes, and maybe invest in a flashlight that doesn’t die at the worst moment.
